Wedding of Nicole and Owen

How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?

I started off by doing a simply google search for dress shops in Central Scotland. I came across Sophia Grace Couture and after browsing their social media pages and seeing all the gorgeous dresses, I decided to book an appointment!

How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture?

As soon as you walk in the door you can tell it’s really exclusive and we immediately knew this would be a special place. We were taken through for my private appointment where we were free to look at all the dresses and pick out those we thought would suit my style. I loved this way of choosing dresses as opposed to places where the shop chooses for you and you end up feeling a tad disappointed. After all – nobody knows you better than yourself!

Tell us about your dress and why you choose your particular gown

I remember on my first visit to the shop there was a dress on the stand which caught all of our eyes – my sister even took a picture of it as it was so beautiful. It was a tight mermaid style which I didn’t think would suit my shape so I never tried it on. When I returned on a later visit to try on the dress I thought I would buy, my best friend wasn’t blown away and I knew it wasn’t for me. She suggested I try on the dress from the pictures and as soon as I walked out the reaction told me I’d found my dress before I’d even looked in the mirror!

How did you meet?  Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?

We actually met when I was studying in Brussels and we’d both happened to have travelled to Paris to attend a concert. Little did we know we had mutual friends and met under the Eiffel Tower of all places! 5 years later, we were visiting his family in Australia and on a trip to Australia’s Zoo, he decided to get down on one knee – I definitely wasn’t expecting it!

What was your inspiration for your wedding?  Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?

Pinterest is definitely the ideal place for you if you’re getting married! It allows you to put together colour palettes and inspiration for your big day. I knew I wanted to have every shade of pink to match my bridesmaid dresses with loads of leafy greens for a dark contrast. Golds and blush pinks featured throughout the décor as well as some glam touches of cut-glass vases for our flowers as centerpieces.

What made you decide upon your chosen venue?

Having lived and studied in Spain whilst at university, I knew I always wanted to get married there. We both didn’t want a large Scottish wedding where we couldn’t count on the weather so we opted to go for guaranteed sunshine! We toured around the South Spanish coast and visited around 6 venues but we knew the layout and styling of El Cortijo de los Caballos was the place for us! As soon as you walk in the door it is simply stunning.

Tell us about your wedding

Our morning was really relaxed as we didn’t have to be ready until 4pm so it didn’t feel rushed at all. We were married in a secret garden under a huge blossom tree which added to the pink theme throughout. The food we had was incredible – traditional Spanish tapas served on sharing boards, paella cooked in front of us by an amazing chef followed by our multi flavoured layers of wedding cake. We then moved over to a Moroccan chill out area which was covered in lanterns and fairy lights where the free bar opened with our his and her cocktails!

What was the most memorable moment?

To be honest, it’s really hard for me to pick a memorable moment as the day flew in – I barely had a second to think! It’s great being able to look back at all of the pictures of things we missed on our big day due to being busy taking photographs or entertaining our guests. My tip to future brides would be to try and make some time on the day to take everything in and keep those memories forever. Easier said than done however!

Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Sophia Grace Couture?

If you see a dress you absolutely love but aren’t sure if you would suit it or if it would be right for your body shape – try it on! It worked for me.
