Wedding of Claire and Kevin

How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?

I knew a few of my friends had shopped there before and that they had a great reputation so thought I would give them a try.

How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture?

I had an absolute disaster with my dress prior to visiting Sophia Grace. I purchased a dress at another shop in the September, went back to try in on in the February and did not like it at all. I couldn’t believe I had “said yes” to this dress as it was nothing like what I had in mind and really was not me. I think I got caught up in the moment with my mum, sister and aunt being there and emotional. It did NOT mean that was THE dress.

A few days later I contacted Naydene and made an appointment. I went on my own after work one evening and as soon as I met Naydene she put me at complete ease. I had spent the last few days in tears worried I would now not possibly have a dress for the wedding which was in the coming June.

We tried on a few dresses and I very quickly came to trust Naydene’s judgement and eye for detail. She really knows her stuff.

How did you meet?  Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?

We actually went to school together and lost touch after school but got back in touch a few years later.

The proposal happened one lazy Sunday morning in December. I was woken up to our border terrier Mac in his bow tie with a ring round his neck. It was lovely and very laid back and just the three of us.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?  Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?

I really wanted to focus on it being a very laid back affair with the focus on being everyone just having THE BEST DAY.

I wanted it to be classy, elegant but pretty at the same time so I went for a very natural colour scheme of creams, greens and dusky pinks. Lots of peonies, hydrangeas and eucalyptus.

Tell us about your wedding

What a day! It was amazing from start to finish and was everything we imagined and more!

We were lucky enough to be able to hold our wedding in the paddocks where we keep our horses in Duns within the beautiful Scottish Borders. It was a marquee affair with a beautiful homemade archway (where we held our humanist ceremony) and cocktail bar for our guests to enjoy which added to the uniqueness we felt.

Our dog Mac and best friend was the ring bearer and had a front row seat at the ceremony which is exactly how we wanted it.

After our ceremony we had some prosecco and canapés on the lawn whilst our singer Jodie Fitzgibbons sang for us which was truly amazing. We had picnic benches etc dotted around too so everyone could relax whilst our photographer caught the moment in a very natural way.

Whilst our guests enjoyed our hospitality we nipped along to stables to have some photos taken with our horses. The saying “don’t work with children or animals” springs to mind but we did manage to get a few snaps in between them spooking at my veil and just being overall menaces!

After this it was almost time for the speeches and meal.  The speeches blew me away. My hubby, dad and brother in law(s) all pulled it out the bag and had the place in both tears and in an uproar of laughter. Our brother in law also sang us a surprise song he wrote to the tune of Greenday – Time Of Your Life which blew absolutely everyone away. Everyone commented it was one of the best speeches they had seen!

What was the most memorable moment?

Oh I honestly couldn’t pick one! The whole day spent with our nearest and dearest was just amazing with memories to last a lifetime!!

Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Sophia Grace Couture?

The only advice I would give would be do not hesitate to make an appointment here. You won’t regret it. They have a huge range of gorgeous dresses and accessories- truly something for everyone.  And trust Naydene she knows what she is doing!
