Wedding of Ellen and Adam

How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?

I heard about Sophia Grace through a friend who had bought her dress from there for her wedding. I looked online and liked the look of the dresses they sold so decided to book an appointment.

How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture

My appointment was with Charlotte and she was friendly and welcoming. Charlotte asked if I knew what I wanted and I told her I had seen a dress online which I thought was mine! Charlotte asked me to take my time and look around at the different style and pick up 5 dresses to start with. I ended up not liking the dress I thought I would but actually buying the second dress I tried which was beautiful! Charlotte was not pushy and helped me to imagine how I would look on the day but showing me veils and accessories. The manager showed me a picture of the dress I ended up buying in a photo shoot and it helped me to see how this would look in pictures! We all then enjoyed a glass of bubbles and I was given a lovely gift from the shop.

Tell us about your dress and why you choose your particular gown

I love anything sparkly and glitzy and my dress was head to toe in sparkles and sequins. I wasn’t sure I would wear something sparkly on my wedding day but when I saw this dress I knew it was a bit of me! The dress had off the shoulder little sleeves which I had altered so they could detach for the evening to allow me to dance! I absolutely loved my dress and wouldn’t change anything about it, I received so many compliments and everyone said it was “very me!”

How did you meet?  Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?

Adam and I met on Tinder and went on our first date in October 2013! We met at bar Kohl in Edinburgh for drinks and here we are nearly 10 years later! Adam proposed to me at Barony Castle near Peebles on the 22nd of January 2022 after waiting for what felt like a lifetime! I totally was not expecting the proposal and thought we were just going for a walk! Adam did an amazing job at picking my engagement ring and had it custom made to exactly the style I loved!

What was your inspiration for your wedding?  Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?

We both fancied a rustic theme which is partly why we picked our venue! We decided to pick a sage green colour along with gold and white (even though Adam felt this was Celtic colours and being a Rangers fan he wasn’t best pleased!). We ended up having sage green bridesmaid dresses and all the accessories were a mixture of green, gold and white which looked amazing!

What made you decide upon your chosen venue?

Dunglass was the last venue out of four that we viewed. As soon as we looked round the ruin and the pavilion I turned to Adam and said “I think this is the one” and he agreed! We both just felt the setting was beautiful and having the whole estate for the night before too was amazing to spend time with the wedding party and family. We both felt the ruin was such a unique place to get married and we loved the rustic feel of the pavilion.

Tell us about your wedding

Our wedding was amazing from start to finish. We have both said we would not change anything apart from the rainy weather which lasted until about 8pm! I got ready in the sea view house with my bridesmaids and mum, and Adam got ready in the cottages with his groomsmen. I ended up being half an hour late for the ceremony which was not planned and I felt very guilty that everyone was waiting for so long! We had an amazing photographer and videographers who captured our special day so well. We felt our wedding was lively and we never had an empty dance floor! We had a great band and saxophone player who kept everyone dancing! We did a few congas around the room and it was just such great fun!!

What was the most memorable moment

Our most memorable moment was the ceremony. It was such an amazing feeling walking into the ruin and seeing everyone there for both of you! It was amazing to see Adam at the bottom waiting for me, it was very emotional! We also enjoyed walking into the pavilion before the speeches and everyone swinging their napkins around, such a good atmosphere!

Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Sophia Grace Couture?

Go in with an open mind as it’s rare you’ll end up buying what you think you will! Enjoy the moment and trying on different styles of dresses as you will never have the opportunity again! Take people who will be honest, I took my mum, sister and mother in law and it was amazing!
