Wedding of Catherine and Alexander

How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?

I found the dress I loved online and then searched for stockists, Sophia Grace was the only store in the area which had it. I had also seen the store on Instagram and loved it so much.

How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture?

I had the best experience, Ines was so kind, genuine and warm, she made me feel really special and nothing was too much trouble. The shop itself is gorgeous too.

Tell us about your dress and why you choose your particular gown.

I picked the Paloma Blanca style 4987, I wanted something plain with a twist and a low back line. I fell in love with how crisp the material was and its overall simplicity and clean lines. As soon as I tried it on I knew I wouldn't settle for any other.

How did you meet?  Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?

Alex and I met on Bumble although he likes to tell people we met in a bar!? As soon as I met him I loved how funny, confident and easy he was to be around. Alex proposed on the steps of a church ruin in central London. When he went down on one knee I thought he had fallen down. I tried to yank him back up off the ground, he had to tell me to stop so he could propose. It was very, very funny!

What was your inspiration for your wedding?  Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?

Because we had a summer wedding I wanted everything to be fresh, clean and reflective of the gorgeous surroundings at Dunglass Estate. I am a perfectionist (sorry Alex) so I spent a long time making sure everything tied in nicely, from the labels on the wine to the colour in the florals and stationary. I went for fresh greens, pink peonies, blush and orange. The colour scheme was one of my favourite things about the day. As the sunset we all congested outside for drinks, everyone said they felt like they were in Santorini, not Scotland.

We wanted a really fresh, summery menu so we had a charcuterie board to start, fresh salmon with gnocchi and a passion fruit sorbet for dessert and pizza in the evening. I wish I could eat it again.

The boys’ kilts were a lovely blue tartan and the girls wore white. I loved it.

What made you decide upon your chosen venue?

Both Alex and I live in East Lothian and love it here. We wanted to get married on the coast, somewhere in the countryside. When we went to Dunglass I fell completely in love with the stone chapel, the cottages, the main house and all of the animals around the estate. We could see the view of the sea and felt very at home. If we win the lottery and it came up for sale I would jump at it.

Tell us about your wedding - What was the most memorable moment?

Our celebrant Andrew Scott was my favourite part of the day. He is so full of love, fun and endless energy. We wanted our vows to reflect us as people, so we didn't want anything to be serious, just light hearted. We really went in on the "funny" aspect of the vows. Andrew delivered it perfectly and we are now proud to call him a friend.

Our photographer Doug is genuinely one of the nicest people we have ever met. We both felt so comfortable around him. Our photos are very natural and full of colour which made us very happy.

Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Sophia Grace Couture?

Have a look online at the style of dress you like, and what you can visualise yourself in. I initially thought I wanted something fitted but quickly realised I wanted a full but plain skirt on the day. I didn't take my full bridal party with me to pick my dress, I chose to take my best friend so my judgement wasn't clouded by what everyone else thought.
