Wedding of Laura and Peter
How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?
I had booked my wedding at Dunglass Estate and Sophia Grace Couture was one of their recommended suppliers. I was taking my mum and sister to view the venue one day and thought we could come and visit Sophia Grace Couture on the way home to make a day out of it as our venue was about an hour away from where we live!
How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture?
I absolutely loved every minute of my experience at Sophia Grace Couture! We had our appointment with Charlotte who was so welcoming and lovely. We had the whole shop to ourselves, which made it feel very special and we were able to pull dresses to try on from the rack. Charlotte was so professional and was very helpful when it came down to choosing my wedding dress! Charlotte put all my worries and nerves to ease and knew straight away when I tried on my dress that it was ‘the one’! We didn’t feel rushed or pressured and it was a really lovely experience – one that I will remember forever! Thank you so much to Charlotte and the team at Sophia Grace Couture who helped me find my dream wedding dress! I loved it so much and I felt the most beautiful I have ever felt in my whole life on my wedding day, the dress, the shoes, the veil, the belt! It was all just so perfect!
Tell us about your dress and why you choose your particular gown
I would say I wanted my wedding dress to be classy and timeless. I had a dress online that I wanted to try and it ended up being the first dress I tried on in the shop and the one I chose as my wedding dress! It made me feel so beautiful and it was everything I had ever dreamed of for my wedding dress. It was absolutely perfect for me and I didn’t want to take it off at the end of my Wedding Day!
How did you meet? Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?
Peter and I met through my dad who played at the local cricket club. We had been together for 9 years before he proposed to me at our favourite location close to home called Burleigh Sands. It was just the two of us, which was so special and definitely worth the wait!
What was your inspiration for your wedding? Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?
I had always wanted to get married in a church and when we found our dream wedding venue at Dunglass Estate, I knew I wanted everything to be classy and timeless and it all came together as I had imagined it. My bridesmaids were in a forest green and we matched the flowers with whites, greens and pinks to tie in with everything – it was perfect! Our suppliers were just absolutely amazing and I would recommend them all to future brides.
What made you decide upon your chosen venue?
We both wanted everything to be onsite for our guests to be able to enjoy the whole day without any travel or stress. Dunglass Estate was everything we could have dreamed of. It is such a stunning venue and we both fell in love with it as soon as we went for our first visit. The contrast between the historic church and the new pavilion is amazing and you can see the sea from the pavilion too! The accommodation onsite it stunning and we were able to make a weekend out of the wedding, which was amazing! It was so unique to any other wedding venue we had been to before and felt like the only place for us to get married! The team at Dunglass are absolutely fantastic and so helpful, we could not have done it without them!
Tell us about your wedding
We got married on 28th October 2023 at Dunglass Estate with all our loved ones present. We chose October because it was outside of cricket season, however it did clash with the rugby world cup final which some of our guests were not so happy about!! There had been a storm the week before, so we were slightly worried about the weather, but it turned out to be a beautiful autumnal day. Roddy, our piper was there to welcome guests to the church and we had a string quartet playing during the ceremony, which was held by minister Suzie Fletcher. It was a really beautiful service with my brother and Peter’s mum both doing readings. We had a mini BBQ themed drinks reception and I did a surprise speech for Peter, which no-one knew about which went down really well and I would really recommend brides doing a speech on the big day! Jo’s Kitchen did all of our catering which was absolutely delicious and we danced the night away with CORA who, in my opinion were the best band ever. They did a mix of ceilidh dances and classics that everyone could enjoy. Everyone commented on how amazing the band were! We had Wee Green Events who came in the evening to provide pizza for everyone, which went down a treat! And of course there was lots of cake from Liggy’s cake who made the most incredible cake for us that not only looked amazing but tasted amazing too!
What was the most memorable moment?
The whole day was just the best day of my life, I would say it was really special having the morning getting ready with all my girls and then when I was walking down the aisle with my dad was so so special! My dad then told me it was one of his proudest life moments! It was just all so special. I wish I could re-live it again!
Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Sophia Grace Couture?
Enjoy every moment of wedding dress shopping and don’t be afraid to be picky about your wedding dress, because you will only get married once and you will want everything about your dress to be so special and perfect! Sophia Grace Couture is a stunning shop with super helpful staff that make you feel so welcomed and special and really just want to help you find the wedding dress of your dreams! Charlotte was so also helpful in recommending Catriona Garforth in Edinburgh to do all my dress alterations and my dress fitted me like a glove on my wedding day – I loved it so much!
