Wedding of Abbie and Dan

How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?

I had been in the past for my little sister’s prom dress.

How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture?

Unbelievable, the staff are so professional, kind and knowledgable, they know exactly what you need. No hassle, felt like a princess and found the perfect dress!

Tell us about your dress and why you choose your particular gown

My dress was Teresa by Calla Blanche, I had visions of wearing a very plain dress and almost chose one however, Ines knew that I also loved the drama, she asked if she could try one more before I made my decision. It was PERFECT. Little bit of lace, sparkle, veil of dreams…I was obsessed!

How did you meet?  Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?

Dan and I met through friends, and had been together 4.5 years before the proposal. We hadn’t long moved into our beautiful new home and we went for a lovely dinner at Scott’s in South Queensferry, afterwards we had drinks on the terrace at Orroco Pier, the terrace was empty and it was just us. The proposal was special and everything I could have hoped for! Followed by many celebrations.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?  Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?

I really wanted a neutral wedding, whites, beige, cream, blush pink etc. It worked perfectly with our guests arriving in their bright summery outfits! We were so lucky to have our ceremony outside in the beautiful courtyard of Dundas Castle, this played a huge part in why we wanted our neutral theme to match the lovely light castle walls and outdoor style.

What made you decide upon your chosen venue?

As soon as we visited Dundas Castle, we knew it was the one! I was looking for a modern feel but with the princess touch! The light grey castle was very different and on an incredible sunny day it looked great. My partner loved all the historic touches inside the castle as well as being able to cut the cake with a sword. The marquee was perfect for a huge party with lots of dancers! Of course, with it being in South Queensferry it was close to our hearts after our engagement.

Our day turned out to be everything we hoped for and more! In one of the year’s worst weather weeks our day managed to somehow beam full of sunshine and we managed to have the courtyard ceremony we dreamed of surrounded by our loved ones, afterwards the drinks reception was lively and fun outside with the amazing entertainment of Euan (Shades of sax) providing great music and our magician Cameron Young wowing the guests! All of the delish food and drinks were provided by the very on the ball caterers Heritage Portfolio.

Our wedding breakfast and speeches were a great laugh and very emotional followed by a surprise ‘rap’ by my bridesmaids which had the room giving a standing ovation! A great end to the wedding breakfast and start to the evening celebrations!

We had an absolutely incredible day, it really was the best day of our lives.

What was the most memorable moment?

Our crazy bridesmaid rap! Absolutely hilarious, fun and we cannot believe they managed to keep all the rehearsing a secret.

Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Sophia Grace Couture?

Enjoy every single minute, don’t worry about the little things as everyone says! It really is about who you spend it with. Splurge and go all out on what means the most, photos, video, dress etc, all the things you get to keep. Make the day about YOU as a couple, down to every detail.
