Wedding of Louise and Calum

How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?

I found out about firstly by googling bridal stores near where I live. I live in Edinburgh but originally from North Berwick (where my parents still live) and my Bridesmaid lives in Haddington so it made sense to make an appointment at a Bridal store in East Lothian.

How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture?

My experience was amazing!!! From first emailing to make my first appointment to picking up my dress the week before my wedding, the whole process was so flawless. I felt so at ease the whole way through and I definitely made the best decision getting my gown from Sophia Grace Couture.

Tell us about your dress and why you choose your particular gown

My dress was by the designer Eliza Jane Howell. It was a fully beaded long sleeved gown in a vintage style. It had been one of the designers I had loved while looking online but originally decided against trying them on as had been a little more pricey than I’d wanted to pay for a dress. However after stepping into the shop my mum went straight over and picked out the Angelica dress and asked me to try it on, I did and I loved it instantly and didn’t want to take it off it was just so perfect and complimented my style completely.

How did you meet?  Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?

Myself and my Husband Calum met while studying at Aberdeen University. Just friends at the time but got together a couple of years after graduating. He proposed after 5 years while on holiday on a Cruise and on the last night he proposed under the stars.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?  Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?

We chose to have a winter wedding on December the 1st 2018. We wanted it to be wintery but not too christmassy. The colours we went for where red/green, with the groom and groomsmen wearing grey. There were little hints at themes from our table names and plan linked to travel and little hints towards my favourite film Lord of the Rings.

What made you decide upon your chosen venue?

Venue was an easy choice. As myself and Calum did sport at University and are really interested in science, one of our first dates was at the Anatomy Museum at Surgeons Halls. We loved the history of the building and how grand it looked. Also having it right in Edinburgh City centre made it so easy for all of our guests to get to.

Tell us about your wedding

Our Wedding was our kind of perfect. It was laid back and friendly. We chose a Humanist Wedding and our Celebrant Candice Did an amazing job at making our wedding very personal and very us. From the stories within the ceremony itself, to the funny speeches, to the amazing food and music it was all exactly how we wanted it.

What was the most memorable moment?

Even though our ceremony was laid back in style and had jokes thrown in I didn’t realise how telling our story, why we are a couple and why we chose to get married would be so moving for everyone watching. The most memorable moment had to be while Candice, our celebrant was telling everyone the reasons why we chose to get married (which were written by us) in a light hearted style (which is how I wanted our wedding to feel) looking at Calum and then looking out to all our friends and family they all were crying and dabbing their eyes. Everyone just got so overwhelmed with emotion and that was truly touching.
