Wedding of Jennifer and Matteo

How did you find out about Sophia Grace Couture?

I found out about Sophia Grace Couture after realising that all the dresses I was liking were by Stella York. After some research I saw they were stocked at Sophia Grace.

How would you describe your experience at Sophia Grace Couture?

Sophia Grace had a fabulous selection of the dresses that I was looking for with a lot of different options.

Hannah was helpful and I came back twice to the store and she was my stylist each time, which made the process easier as she had remembered what I had previously tried.

Tell us about your dress and why you choose your particular gown.

After leaving without anything on my first visit, I kept looking on Sophia Grace’s Instagram account and noticed there was a trunk show with the 2019 preview collection. I saw my dream dress and had to book an appointment.

My dress was the Stella York style: 6586. Before I found my dress, I knew I wanted crepe fabric with button detailing the full way down the back and onto the train with lace, which is the reason I had to try this on.

When I arrived, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the illusion sides, but I ended up loving them and they made the dress that extra bit special and highlighted my frame.

How did you meet?  Are you happy to tell us about the proposal?

Matteo and I met 10 years ago in 2009 and he was a friend of my brothers.

After 8 years, Matteo proposed in 2017 in Mexico after a trip to a private island. We then had a bottle of prosecco on the white beaches and watched a thunder storm on the beach.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?  Did you follow a specific theme or colour palette?

The wedding palette was dusty blues, white and lots of greenery. I absolutely love a natural look and really wanted it to feel bright and natural.

Matteo had said he wanted his suit to be blue so that set the tone for the Bridesmaids and theme, so I went for Dusty Blue dresses for the girls and complimented it with all white for my nieces who were our Flower Girls.

All the Flowers were white and Green with a hint of blue coming through from the Eucalyptus. Bigger the better for the flowers!

I decorated almost every inch of the Venue with Flowers as I felt this just added to theme of our day.

What made you decide upon your chosen venue?

Our Wedding day was the most incredible moment of our lives. The ceremony was the most important part for us as we had waited 10 years to finally become husband and wife.

Our friends wrote personal readings during the ceremony and we tailored our service to be personal and light hearted. We had secretly shared 3 reasons why we love each other with our celebrant and got to hear these for the first time on the day.

Our ceremony and drinks reception was beautiful with Capella String quartet entertaining our guests, throughout the ceremony and the drinks.

The reception was unbelievable – more than we could have imagined. We always knew we wanted to have a party, but we didn’t realise just how much of a party we had thrown. We had arranged for a friend to DJ, who got everyone up dancing before the main courses had arrived. By the time desserts were done, the party was in full swing with napkins in the air and our friends and family on chairs – it was epic!

We had a live Band – Bleeker. They played for our evening reception and the DJ playing while they took their break. The mix worked better than we ever through it would and our dancefloor was packed all night.

The little touches:

  • Sweets and a Donut Wall

  • Personalised candles as favours for all guests

  • Touch of Eucalyptus on each chair

  • Weathered paper place cards

  • Flips flops for all the girls

What was the most memorable moment?

Our photos just the two of us – it was amazing to be alone taking in everything that was happening on the day and actually getting to talk to each other about the ceremony and becoming Mr & Mrs

Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Sophia Grace Couture?

I would suggest doing your research before and going in with some aspects of your definite ‘loves’ in a dress – this will help the stylists provide options of dresses that you may never have considered before

Be open minded and try on dresses you wouldn’t think you would want to try – it might end up being your dream dress
