Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping: Dos and Don’ts

Congratulations, you're getting married!

Now that you've set the date, it's time to start thinking about finding the perfect dress. Wedding dress shopping can be an exciting and emotional experience, but it can also be overwhelming and stressful if you don't know what to expect. To help you navigate the process, we've put together a guide of dos and don'ts for wedding dress shopping.

DO: Start early - Wedding dress shopping should ideally begin around a year before your wedding date. This will give you enough time to find the perfect dress, and allow for alterations and fittings before the big day. Starting early will also give you time to explore different styles and designers, and ensure that you don't feel rushed or pressured into making a decision. If you have less time, don’t worry! Our Sample Suite has a huge selection of dresses you can take away on the day of your appointment.

DON'T: Bring too many people - It's natural to want to include your closest family and friends in the wedding dress shopping experience. However, bringing too many people can be overwhelming and make it difficult to make a decision. We recommend bringing no more than three or four people whose opinions you trust and value. See our Appointment Types for guest limits for each suite in the boutique.

DO: Keep an open mind - You may have a certain style or design in mind, but it's important to keep an open mind and try on different styles. You may be surprised to find that a dress you never considered looks stunning on you. Additionally, don't be afraid to try on dresses that may not be your typical style – you may find that you love a dress that is different from what you initially imagined.

DON'T: Forget about your budget - Wedding dresses can vary in price, and it's important to have a budget in mind before you start shopping. Your stylist can discuss your budget with you before your appointment, to ensure that they can help you find dresses that fit within your preferred price range.

DO: Wear appropriate underwear - When trying on dresses, it's important to wear the right underwear. We recommend wearing nude coloured undergarments to ensure that they are not visible beneath the dress. You may also wish to wear a strapless bra, however this is not essential.

Most importantly: Trust your instincts! When you find ‘The One’, you'll know. Remember, this is your day and you should feel confident and beautiful in your dress.

In conclusion, wedding dress shopping can be a fun and exciting experience. Remember to start early, bring a small group of trusted friends or family, keep your budget in mind, wear appropriate underwear, and trust your instincts. With these tips, you're sure to find the perfect dress for your special day.
