Choosing our Fall 2020 & Spring 2021 Collections

In March we normally visit our suppliers who showcase their new collections at London Bridal Fashion Week which is hosted at London Excel.  As you can imagine this event was cancelled this year and London Excel is now the new temporary home of the fabulous Nightingale Hospital.

We absolutely love choosing our next season gowns and meeting colleagues from other bridal stores at these events.

How do we choose new gowns?

Many of you I am sure imagine that this is a fabulous event and choosing new gowns is amazing.  Honestly, it is super stressful, as you never know what brides will be looking for in four or six months’ time, what silhouette will be popular, will lace or plain gowns be preferred, it literally is tough, the Prosecco helps I have to admit!

We like to touch dresses, see the fabric up close and look at the structure, this helps us decide which size, colour and silhouette we select.  It is a very expensive shopping trip therefore we need to make sure we choose the correct gowns for the forthcoming season.

We make appointments with each designer to view new gowns, sometimes speak with the designer themselves and find out what trends they forecast for the upcoming season.  If there are new designers that we are interested in we always carry out research before we visit.

So how will we choose new season gowns now?

Like so many people I am working from home, I am lucky that Hannah, who works in the boutique is my daughter therefore we are self-isolating together and we can choose gowns together.  Now that’s not to say we will agree on each dress we choose!

This season we are looking at each designer’s new collection online, zooming in on details however sadly we cannot touch or feel the fabric.  Is this tougher than normal, absolutely, but all I can say is that what we choose we hope you will love.

The dresses that we select at the moment won’t arrive in the boutique until autumn.

Although the boutique is closed I hope you are enjoying our social media content updates. Remember we are all here for you, if you have any questions please message us via social media or email info@sophiagracecouture.com
